Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies and Natchitoches Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force Agents have arrested a north Natchitoches Parish man on felony drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop on US-71 near Fairview Alpha and execution of a search warrant on his residence according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor Jones.

On Thursday morning April 20 at approximately 11:30am, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Division stopped a 2000 Lincoln Town Car on US-71 near Fairview Alpha for Switched License Plates.

Deputies identified the operator of the vehicle as Matthew W. Aton, 29, of the 500 block of Holman Loop, Fairview Alpha, La.

Deputies say while speaking with Aton, he appeared very uneasy responding that he took the license plate off of his truck and placed it on the car to run around”.

As the traffic stop progressed, deputies observed Aton continuously moving around leading them to believe criminal activity existed.

Deputies obtained permission to search Aton and the vehicle.

During a search of Aton, deputies discovered a glass pipe on his person commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of pouch containing a digital scale and approximately 20-30 baggies some containing suspected methamphetamine residue.

Aton was placed under arrest, and shortly thereafter deputies obtained information of additional narcotics at this residence.

Deputies contacted the Natchitoches Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force for assistance.

Agents obtained a search warrant signed by a Tenth Judicial District Court Judge to search Aton’s residence located in the 500 block of Holman Loop in Fairview.

During a search of the residence, deputies and task force agents discovered and seized approximately 28-grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine, cut ingredients used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a .410 gauge shotgun.

Aton was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with Possession of CDS Schedule II Crystal Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Illegal Possession of a Firearm during a Narcotics Offense and Switched License Plates.

Deputies say while interviewing Aton, he allegedly confessed that he has been involved in the illegal distribution of methamphetamine in north Natchitoches Parish.

The seized evidence will be submitted to the crime lab for narcotics analysis and identification.

The vehicle was impounded.

Aton remains in the Natchitoches Detention Center awaiting bond.

Involved in the arrest were Deputies assigned to NPSO Patrol Shift “A” and Agents assigned to the Natchitoches Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force.
